It's a good premise, but people don't buy packaged goods like Corn Flakes online. The primary channels are still chain drug and grocery stores. So while SEO (I like web position gold as the way to do this) still generates incremental and lower cost impressions the internet may still be better suited for clothing purchases that happen less frequently than the every two weeks people buy a box of cereal. I ran the Kelloggs account at Leo Burnett. I also worked for General Mills and Post Cereals so know something of the business. No one has cracked the code on how to sell high frequency packaged goods online yet though companies like Campbell's still try home delivery meal services. Once cracked though chain drugs and groceries might have to rethink their models. Sure wouldn't mind a place on your blogroll for my blog, MADISON AVENUE (http://advertising-age.blogspot.com)

Hey Amanda,

That was Bernstein's bad, not Byrne's

He tipped me off about the Corn Flakes but after a WP version upgrade, I got locked out from the control panel for a while and couldn't edit.

Agreed, the anti-masturbatory "benefit" is a striking one. I don't know about the study but I'd sure like to hear an ad jingle about it!

Tony the Tiger was frosted flakes, silly!
All that Corn Flakes have is that darn Rooster.

BUT! This is interesting. When Corn Flakes started being marketed in the 1800s, one of their listed "benefits" was that eating Corn Flakes curbs masturbation. Neat, right?

I wonder if anyone has done a study on whether or not that worked out for them.
