		<description>Yes, Andrew, it&#039;s amazing how most small businesses are perpetual &#039;objects at rest&#039; when it comes to anything not related to their core business.

Take the husband and wife restaurant owners I mentioned above. 

They have the best sushi and sashimi in town. In fact, a Southern Arizonan looking for better sushi would practically have to fly to San Francisco to find it...yet they&#039;re headed off a cliff.

No advertising...no customer list...no thought to promotion at all.

They&#039;d easily get a 30% pop in their monthly gross if they just started capturing their customers&#039; contact info and sending them a postcard (or even an email) simply saying, &#039;Hi.&#039;

I even broke my cardinal rule of offering unsolicited, free advice (more than once) because they&#039;re one of my favorite watering holes.

Still status quo.

They may never absorb the meaning of the four-word line from &quot;Schindler&#039;s List.&quot; &quot;The list is life.&quot;</description>

Most restaurants and small businesses make no real attempt at all at any kind of real marketing.

They just open the doors and hope enough people will come in that they can make a profit.

There&#039;s no attempt to capture client details and follow up with special offers.

No attempt even to do a simple leaflet or door hanger campaign to the local area with a special offer (and track results).

For most small businesses even the most basic marketing campaign can bring in huge profits.
